Asia Spa Awards 2010 on Zee Trendz

In a first of its kind initiative, Zee Trendz partnered with the prestigious signature event, Fourth Pevonia asiaSpa India Awards to award the Indian wellness industry. And where there's luxury and high life, could Bollywood be far behind? Eternal diva Rekha, the beautiful Rani Mukherjee and the recently married Gul Panag were just some of the stars who graced the occasion.

With a 500+ guest list, the evening was one of opulence and celebration as 28 lucky winners highlighted and paid accolades to the latest in spa trends.
Rani Mukherjee was awarded with the Spa Diva 2010 Award, Vijendra Singh bagged the Wellness Icon 2010 Award.

Rekha, known to be a very private person, made a rare appearance for the occasion where she unveiled her exclusive interview and photo shoot.
The actor was greeted by modern-day diva Rani Mukerji. The two were seen exchanging not just hugs and pleasantries, but also compliments. After countless air - kisses and hugs between the two and Mukherjee doing a paeri-pauna to Rekha the latter handed over the title of Spa Diva to the former. The warmth between Rani, dressed in a red-and-gold bordered white sari, and Rekha, draped in her signature Kanjeevaram, was noteworthy.
"One should'nt call me a diva in the presence of the only diva in Bollywood … Rekhaji. But yes, spas rock. I love massages," was Mukherjee's acceptance speech.

Bhansali, Shabinaa team up to co-produce Akshay-sta rrer'Rowdy Rathore'

New Delhi, April 29 (IANS) Acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has teamed up with designer Shabinaa Khan to co-produce the interestin gly titled movie"Rowdy Rathore", which is his first film with Bollwood star Akshay Kumar.
For the first time Bhansali is indu...lging in an out-and-ou t actioner that will also star Sonakshi Sinha.

"To me an action film is totally an alien concept. At this juncture as a filmmaker, I want to move out of the comfort zone and do things that are new and untried,"Bhansali, known for mangnum opus like"Devdas"and"Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam", said in a statement.
Southern star Prabhu Deva will wield the megaphone for the movie. He showed his magic when he went behind the camera to direct Salman Khan in"Wanted"that turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2009 and now he is expected to break stereotypi cal boundaries of the action genre with"Rowdy Rathore".
"I'm very excited about my first production film'Rowdy Rathore', which is a hardcore action masala flick and with such a talented team on board. Pray the audiences will love,"said Shabinaa.
Akshay, known for actioners like"Khiladi"and"Mohra", will return to hardcore action with the film. In recent times, mostly seen in funny films like"Singh Is Kinng"and"Namastey London", the 43-year-ol d star will undergo rigorous physical training in preparatio n for the role that will have top notch action and choreograp hy.
"The dynamite combinatio n of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Akshay Kumar and Prabhu Deva calls for a film that is aesthetica lly larger than life packed with mind blowing stunts and impressive choreograp hy. The film has box-office success written all over it,"said a trade sourc

Rani Mukherjee and Prithviraj to pair-up

Yes, you read it right. It is one of the unusual pair that one can expect on screen but soon they are going to be seen together in a film directed by Sachin Kundalkar. Sachin has made three Marathi films and won two national awards. Bringing the duo of south sensation Prithviraj and the queen of Bollywood Rani Mukherjee together is none other than acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap who’ll be producing it. “Rani who off late is associated with realistic cinema [remember No One Killed Jessica] liked the script and immediately said yes to the project whereas Anurag was bowled over by the looks and acting credentials of Prithviraj hence roping him in”, said a source. Mind you Prithviraj played the role of Vikram in Tamil version of Raavan and received accolades for his performance. This untitled film will go on floors from this September. This is the second film that Rani signed this year after Aamir Khan’s untitled project with Reema Kagti.

Is Akshay Kumar upset with John Abraham?

The pranks played on film sets by stars are every publicist’s staple meat but this one probably went too far. Apparently actor Akshay Kumar was not amused when co-star John Abraham conned him into having some white rum. Kumar has been a teetotaler for quite sometime now because of his health. Interestingly, the incident happened in the same party which was thrown after the completion of the shoot of the film.
“Rohit (debutant director Rohit Dhawan) orchestrated a social evening to get all his actors comfortable before the start of the shooting schedule at Macdonald Randolph Hotel and Spa in Oxford. Everybody wanted to have fun and it was John’s idea that people should play a prank on Akshay who keeps on playing a prank on everybody,” says a source.
Apparently, this was the only time when Kumar reportedly thought that the prank had gone too far. “Kumar doesn’t smoke or drink and Abraham thought that a little bit of alcohol will help to loosen up Akshay. So he went and told Rohit that he wants to make a cocktail that looks like a mocktail. It was all being done in jest,” said a source. Apparently, the ‘jest’ didn’t remain a jest when Kumar found out that he was conned into drinking alcohol.
“After a sip Kumar told David to check with the bar-man if there’s alcohol in his drink to which everybody insisted that it was a new mocktail that tasted like a cocktail but didn’t have any alcohol in it. After having a few sips Kumar was convinced that he was having alcohol and he went and checked with the bar counter himself. That is when he e to know that he was being conned into having alcohol. Kumar's face immediately hardened when he learnt it,” the source adds. Kumar and Abraham apparently didn’t speak a word in the party after that incident, according to sources even though things became better as the shooting schedule progressed.
“I am sure both will say that it was a prank to get Akshay drunk and Akshay took it sportingly but at that point of time Akshay was not amused when he found he John had made him drink alcohol,” the source informed.

‘People don’t go to watch films for messages. Last year’s major hits have been pure entertainers’

In this Idea Exchange moderated by Vipin Pubby, Resident Editor, The Indian Express, Chandigarh, Actor Akshay Kumar talks about his Punjabi roots and the 3D film he is shooting for

Charanjit Ahuja: Films these days are technically far superior than ever before but why is that the soul, the message is missing ?

Akshay Kumar: I don’t think people go to watch films for messages. Look at last year’s releases, the major hits have been pure entertainers, like Golmaal 3 and Dabangg. Rarely do we get a script like 3 Idiots which is entertaining and has a message. The people who are watching cinema are truck drivers, the rickshaw-wallahs, the auto-rickshaw guys—people who want entertainment. You may say it is sad, but people just enjoy entertainment, that’s the truth—their cinema is paisa vasool cinema. I too have enjoyed Golmaal 3 and Dabangg, but having a film with a soul and a message and which is entertaining is sone pe suhaga.

Anurag Kashyap confirms Prithvi & Rani

Maverick Bollywood director turned producer Anurag Kashyap has confirmed that he is producing a Hindi film with Malayalam heart throb Prithviraj.

Anurag has tweeted:"Confirming our next production to be directed by Sachin Kundalkar and starring Rani Mukherji and Prithviraj. It goes on floors September."
Prithviraj confirmed that he is doing Sachin Kundalkar's Hindi Movie, produced by Anurag Kashyap with Rani Mukerji as his heroine.

In an earlier interview, Prithvi said that there were many bollywood offers that came his way but this film is not typical bollywood love story.
Says Prithviraj: "I liked the script of the film and then agreed to do the film."

Rani-Kareena: Keep distance

Even though one-time friends Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji, are coming back together in the untitled Aamir Khan starrer, we can tell you that they don't have even one scene together.
Reema Kagti's directorial venture has Aamir playing a cop, while the two actresses are cast in pivotal characters who touch Aamir's life in different ways. "The script is such that Rani and Kareena's characters never cross paths. So, there is no need for them to shoot with each other. Thus, they are never even on the sets together. Not that there is a problem between the two.

They are professional and respect each other. In fact, Bebo has been telling people on the sets how much she likes Rani as a person and actor. Bebo has many kind word for her contemporaries, so this one comes straight from the heart." So all those hoping to see the actresses face the camera together, will have to wait longer.

Rani Faces Questions

“I’m a simple person who wants to lead a simple life in the complex world of cinema. I knew this is difficult because life can get pretty complicated here. But I’m not waiting anxiously for something great or dramatic to happen to me. It’s the little, little things that make me smile. I’d be happy even if someone handed me a glass of water.”

This what Rani Mukherjee  told Praveena  Bharadwaj in a 40 questions interview. The above was in response to the question how would  you describe yourself?

Here are some of the questions and answers.

Q: What’s the motto you live by?
‘Live life to the fullest. Never hurt anyone and concentrate on creating love and laughter.’

Q: Does commitment scare you?
“Not at all . Because the level of your commitment reflects your involvement and confidence. You can’t be a coward and run away. You have to be committed to whatever you do in life.’

Q: Can you tell us three unknown facts about yourself?
“I’m very lazy and laid back, have a terrible temper and can bake amazing cakes.’

Q: How old were you when you fell in love for the first time?
‘I think I was 11 or 12. Please don’t ask me for the name of the person because he is married now.

Q: Which is the most beautiful part of your body?
‘My heart. Those close to me feel I have a heart of gold.’

Q: When and where were you most embarrassed?
I’m embarrassed whenever I see myself on screen. Because all those emotions are forced, not real. They make me squirm.’

Q: If you could change one thing about your body, what would it be?
‘ My height. I’d give anything for a few inches more’.

Q: What’s the one thing  in your life you’d like to get rid of?
‘Fake people, they make me feel sick.’

Q: What’s the cutest thing about you?
‘Me, myself, the whole of me. I think I’m cute’.

Q: Are you a better actress on-screen or off-screen?
On screen of course. Acting is only for the screen, not for real life. In fact, I find it difficult to act off-screen’

Q: What’s the worst thing about being an actress?
‘That you have to act constantly, in reel and real life. To the extent that you start asking yourself, am I acting or am I being my normal self.’

Q: What are the three best things about being an actress?
‘ Name, fame and money’.

Q: What is the weirdest thing you’ve put in your mouth?
Artificial blood during action scenes. Sometimes it’s coloured water and sometimes cough syrup. Uuuughhh.

Q: Which lyrics truly mean something to you?
The title song of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai- Tum Paas Aaye, Yun Muskuraaye, Tum Ne NA Jaane Kya sapne dikkaye……

Q: Who do you think is the sexiest man in the industry?
‘Shah Rukh Khan. My all time favourite is Mr Amitabh Bachchan, but right now it’s SRK’.

Q: If your dream man and you were struck on a lonely island, what would you do?
‘I’d call the dream unitwallahs and ask them to shoot a song on that very location- for our eyes only.’

Q: Do you believe in God?
‘Oh yes. He is the Almighty. He is everywhere. He keeps an eye on us constantly. I fear Him.’

Q: What is your idea of a perfect, romantic day?
Spending time with the person I love. We could be in Switzerland or anywhere else for that matter.’

Akshay misses family while shooting

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is a family man! Whenever he is busy shooting or travelling abroad without his wife Twinkle, and son Aarav, he says the pain is unmatched.

“I know everyone thinks an actor’s life is grand, but believe me filming everyday of the year & having to miss even 1 day of my son’s life is more painful than getting kicked in the head!!,” Akshay posted on his Twitter page.

Still, Akshay does not complain.

“But I do love my job & the places I get to take my family coz of it is most definitely the band-aid behind the pain,” he added.

The 43-year-old is currently shooting for “Desi Boyz” with John Abraham in London. He was joined by his wife and son on the shoot and so Akshay was away from the social networking radar for a long time.

“When my family travels with me, I think of nothing else but filming and my family. I dont check emails, twitter disappears, my entire daily thought process becomes only about them,” he posted.

Now that his family has returned home, Akshay is missing them.

“Since ‘Thank You’ released I’ve been filming in London with big butch John for Rohit Dawan’s ‘Desi Boyz’ and my wife & son hav been with me the whole time. It’s been wonderful. We rammed everyday with somethin special for Aarav & just enjoyed London life to da max. But sadly they’ve gone back to India now and i feel so empty without them (sic),” wrote Akshay.

Akshay Kumar paired with Asin as brand ambassador of sure antiperspirant

These days we see Akshay Kumar a lot in television as he is endorsing a lot of products. Be it the macho man in Thumbs up ore the in Micromax, LG he has become a household face. To add to his long list of endorsement Sure antiperspirant has also roped him for endorsing their brand as the brand ambassador. As the south beauty and actress Asin also endorse that brand it might so happen that both these actors might be seen together in advertisements.

It is said that Akshay Kumar has been taken by the Sure people for universal appeal as we have seen that Akshay brings a certain credibility of his own to the product. If he is the brand Ambassador of Sure than the brand name of the product would have a larger appeal. To add to the maters Asin and Akshay are working together in Hosefull 2.
It is said that Asin was previously the brand ambassador of Sure and now since Akshay has been approached by the product it is no wonder that the Khiladi would be the brand ambassador and Asin would star opposite him.

The film Housefull 2 which would star Akshay and Asin together for the first time would see the making of a couple as both of them would look well. Everyone is looking forward to the ilm as Sajid Khan had promised everyone that Housefull 2 would be 10 time funnier than Housefull and would do three times more business.

Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Kareena Kapoor .. no starry tantrums in reema kagtis workshop

Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee are not only good actors but they also do not have any star tantrums or egos as was seen in the recent workshop of Reema Kagti’s film. Reema Kagti the debut director wanted all the actors of her film to attend a workshop so that they can do perfectly when the shooting of the film started. Aamir Khan, Rani and Kareena very graciously accepted the condition and did what was in the best interest of the film.

The script reading session took place at a hotel in Mumbai which was attended by almost all the members of the cast. The producer of the film Ritesh Sidhwasani used to be present in some of the sessions. Aamir Khan was a daily participant and so was Rani Mukherjee and Kareena KApoor. However Aamir had to skip some days of the workshop as he had to attend Berlin Film festival. However news has it that after the film festival this superstar would again join the troop for their reading session.
This film which would start shooting soon has Aamir, Rani and Kareena as its lead actors. Aamir Khan is donning the character of a cop. Going by Aamir’s perfectionist way we can expect that he would do full justice to the role offered to him. Reema Kagti’s movie is sure to have a strong script as without which Aamir Khan would never have said yes.

The new look of Aamir Khan as a cop was caught in the camera by some media people. The actor looked handsome as ever with his short hair, a beard and Police costume. No one can beat this actor when it comes to looks and acting combined. Audiences are looking forward to seeing Aamir in this avatar.

Eveready Industries India, India’s leading marketing dry cell battery has signed up Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar as its brand ambassador.
Akshay Kumar, speaking on the occasion, said “It gives me immense pleasure to be associated with an iconic brand like Eveready. Referring to the association, Deepak Khaitan, Vice Chairman, Eveready said “We are happy to have Mr Akshay Kumar as the brand ambassador for Eveready. Housefull 2 cast gets jet-set

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala is not one to let cost worries hinder the quality of his productions. This time he plans to hire private planes to fly his cast to the UK location on June 1, where Housefull 2, will be shot.

Director Sajid Khan attributes the idea to the large cast co mprising of Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh, Rahul Khanna, Mithun Chakraborty, Asin, Jacqueline Fernandez and Zarine Khan. Nadiadwala confirms the plan, saying, “The idea is to save time and make the shooting experience comfortable.”

Asked about the resultant increase in production costs, Khan reasons: “Since there are so many actors, we did think that hiring private jets would be expensive, but this way, the entire cast can travel together. Besides, there'll be no chance of losing luggage.”

He further added that they have a magnanimous producer in Nadiadwala, who has backed the idea. “He's known for panache and style in his productions, so why not?” counters Khan, adding, “We're still working on the logistics. If the difference is reasonable, we'll go for it. But if it's astronomical, then we'll travel the regular way.”

After schedules in UK and Italy, Khan will also shoot in Thailand and Brazil. He says, “I'm trying to follow the theory of Bond films, and give a different location to the audience every 15 minutes,” he enthuses, but quickly adds that it's not just for the sake of it.

“The screenplay's structure allowed me to explore different settings. This past month, I've only been scouting for locations.”

Apart from one more location, Khan is yet to finalise one more heroine for his film. “We'll finalise the pending cast as soon as we return to Mumbai,” he concluded.

Rani Mukerji goes back to school?

Not to endorse a cause, product or a film, this time Rani Mukerji made time from her busy schedule to visit her school, Maneckji Cooper, for its annual day function. The last time the actor set her foot in the building was in 1993 on the day she passed out of class 10.

“Not everyone lands an opportunity to return to their school as chief guests. I felt blessed. I met a couple of my teachers again. A few, I found out, had passed away. I went around the classrooms and the corridors,” Rani reminisces.

“I spent my most stress-free days there. Everyone owes the foundation of their lives to their schools. I’m not any different. I have to thank my geography teacher Mrs Vakil. It’s because of what she taught me and the way she taught it, that I’m good with every place I travel to.”

The actor’s knee-high niece, whom she lovingly calls Mishti, has just started attending school. Does she find a striking difference in the textbooks she read and the kind her niece carries to her school?

Rani“She is very young. As the years go by, the difference between the process she goes through and the one I went through, will get clear,” Rani points out.

“But I’m sure that kids today don’t have a bag as heavy as ours. Schools seem more vigilant about that. I still remember I had four thick textbooks for both, math and science. They made the bag really heavy.”

But for Shiksha, a project that aims to build schools all over the country for underprivileged kids, Rani has only lent her name. On being asked why, she argues, “The project is well-funded by a leading corporate house. I don’t think they need money from me. Whenever and wherever they need me to be present, I’ll be there. But we’re not involving money in this. Also, I don’t think I should go to every place where the project builds a school, because the media’s focus would shift to me instead of the cause.”

Everyone wants to be Rani Mukerji's asst dir

After TOI broke the story that Rani Mukerji is set to turn director, she has started getting calls from people, asking her if they can assist her on the film.
Even though Rani asserted in the interview that she hasn't decided when she will wield the megaphone on the set, she has a list of possible assistant directors who want to work with her.

FICCI women honor Rani

The Young FICCI Ladies Organisation (YFLO) recently honored a few women achievers in their respective chosen fields of work. Rani Mukherjee was the only one from Bollywood. She was the centre of attraction and not even for a minute did the actress stop smiling, perhaps because of the award - excellence in cinema - that she was getting. During her speech, she said that awards always make her want to work harder. Rani is humble too. Recently, she bowed down to Madhuri Dixit doing a full namaskar, laying flat on the floor in front of her. This week's "Jhalak Dikhla Jaa" seems to be all about womanpower. Two gorgeous Bollywood actresses Rani Mukherji and Vidya Balan will join the beautiful judges Madhuri Dixit and Malaika Arora Khan in this week's episode. Together they form a formidable female faction for a fascinating show.

While both Rani Mukherji and Vidya Balan were elated to meet the original Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit, the senior actress went a step further. A self-confessed Madhuri Dixit fan, Rani Mukherji went ahead to the extent of bowing down to her original inspiration. In complete awe of the actress, Rani Mukherji says, "Madhuri Dixit has been my all time favorite actress. I loved the way she acted and danced". The duo also performed together on the "Dola Re Dola" song from 'Devdas'.

'Rani's item number for Housefull 2'

For the first time in her career, Rani Mukerji will do a hot disco number

Rani Mukerji is certainly having fun. On the one hand, she has delivered a hard-hitting performance in her last film and on the other, she is gearing up for some matkas and jhatkas in the Housefull sequel.

Yes, for the first time in her career, the actress will be seen in an item song. Even though she is a fantastic dancer, for some reason, she has stayed away from item songs so far in her career. However, she isn't ready to talk about it. A trained Odissi dancer, Rani says, "As of now, this is hearsay and I'd like to leave it at that. I have really not done an item number in my career, but I'm open to it.

Doing it totally depends on how the song is being presented and if it excites me. I love dancing and I think such special songs have a lot of energy. It's fun to see and shoot." So will this number be choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant, who is a close friend of Rani and has directed her dance moves in Bunty Aur Babli and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic? We'll keep you posted.

Now Dadasaheb Phalke award for the actress

After collecting every other award in the country for her performance in No One Killed Jessica, Rani will soon add the Dada Saheb Phalke Academy Award to her collection. She confirms, "I'm happy that people have loved my film and my work. I have always let my work do the talking and I guess I have proved to my critics that I'm not over. It's a great feeling to be back winning awards.

The past three years had been challenging because I didn't have box office success behind me. People forget the body of work, and the amount of blood and sweat that you put in for years and write you off, so I'm very happy to get this prestigious award."

Rani Mukherjee

Mini Biography
Mukerji comes from a film-oriented family of Bengali origin. Her father, Ram Mukherjee, is a retired director and one of the founders of "Filmalaya Studios". Her mother, Krishna Mukherjee, was a playback singer. Her brother, Raj Mukherjee is a film producer, now turned director. Her maternal aunt, Debashree Roy, was a Bengali-film actress and her cousin, Kajol, is a Bollywood actress.

Mukerji is a trained Odissi dancer, and began learning the dance in tenth grade. Mukerji studied at Maneckjee Cooper High School in Juhu, and later enrolled at Mithibai College in Mumbai.

While in school at the age of 14, Mukerji did a cameo role in her father's Bengali film Biyar Phool (1992). In 1994, Salim Akhtar, a family friend, offered her a film called Aa Gale Lag Jaa (1994) but her father was against it as she was too young. Mukerji turned down the offer and Urmila Matondkar was cast instead.

Two years later, Salim Akhtar came up with another offer and insisted on her playing the protagonist of Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat (1997). After a long discussion with her father, she agreed to do the film. When the film was unsuccessful at the box office, Mukerji returned to college to complete her education.

Mukerji had a successful comeback in 1998 with Ghulam, opposite Aamir Khan; the film did well at the box office. The song Aati Kya Khandala made Mukerji popular among the masses, earning her the nickname of Khandala Girl.
